Reports: MS Dhoni likely to lead CSK in IPL 2020

Dhoni likely to lead CSK in IPL 2020: There are reports that Dhoni will continue playing in the Indian Premier League.

As has been the case since last year, speculations, suggestions and queries on former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s retirement continue to do the rounds in the media.

With India getting eliminated from the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Dhoni’s future has become a national concern. Having turned 38 earlier this month, there is a general inquiry regarding him being able to take part in the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

In nine ODIs in this World Cup, Dhoni scored 273 runs at an average of 45.50 and a strike rate of 87.78 including a couple of half-centuries. Talking about his recent form in ODIs, Dhoni has scored 600 runs at an average of 60 and a strike rate of 82.30 including six half-centuries in 18 ODIs this year.

Going by his numbers, Dhoni seems to be doing well but the major problem is not reflective in these numbers. It is Dhoni’s batting approach of taking the match till the last over which hasn’t gone down well of late. The fact that he himself hasn’t justified the approach further speaks against him.

A recent report in Mumbai Mirror almost confirms that irrespective of the legendary cricketer retiring from international cricket or not, he will continue to lead Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League next year.

“Whatever may be the speculation, he will play for us next year,” a source close to Super Kings was gleefully quoted as saying to Mumbai Mirror.

As far as India’s next international assignment is concerned, they will tour West Indies for a three T20Is, three ODIs and a couple of Test matches next month. Reports of Dhoni alongside captain Virat Kohli and spearhead Jasprit Bumrah getting rested for the tour are already doing the rounds.
