The Riyad Mahrez to Arsenal transfer is set to dominate the back pages in the coming weeks. Mahrez is keen to join Arsenal, but Leicester are holding out for a much higher fee than what Arsenal are offering right now.
Mahrez will no doubt be keen to join the Gunners, with the North London side looking quite strong ahead of the new season.
They have already made quality additions, with the club having completed a club record transfer of Alexandre Lacazette. A front four of Ozil, Sanchez, Lacazette and Mahrez would surely be one to watch out for!
But Leicester City are playing hardball over Mahrez. While they are not averse to selling Mahrez, they would want to get the highest possible fee for their star man.
Leicester have put a price tag of 50 million pounds on Mahrez, which is not something that Arsenal are willing to pay.
Instead, they have focused their energies on Monaco winger Thomas Lemar. This has obviously angered Mahrez, who wants Leicester to lower the price tag in order to complete his move.
Foxes boss Craig Shakespeare has made it clear that he wants Mahrez to behave like a professional over the next few weeks.
‘Ultimately he’s contracted to the football club and he has to be professional,’ Shakespeare said.
‘We all can have a little mood swing but it’s about how long that lasts for. It applies to everybody, not just Riyad, the commitment and application has to be there.
‘We haven’t had any bids and if we don’t have one, we’ve got no decision to make.’
