Kubica opens up on his F1 future

Robert Kubica has some work to do in the final few races of this season, as he somehow needs to find himself a Formula 1 race seat for 2019, so that he stays relevant and can someday dream of driving for F1’s elite.

From the looks of it, a permanent driver seat looks unlikely for Kubica, as he does not have the required funding for that second Williams seat and is not being considered for the second Toro Rosso seat either.

Now, according to reports Ferrari are planning to rope in Kubica as a simulator driver for the next season, a move that could be a backward step for the Pole, but would give him the chance to realise his dream of working at Ferrari.

For Kubica, who was very close to a Ferrari seat in 2012, had to opt out of Formula 1 as a whole following that ugly rally accident in 2011.

Now, with reports suggesting that a Ferrari role could open up, Kubica feels that he could be swayed into that direction, as it would be a dream come true for him.

“If there is a chance, and even if only for a short test to wear a red overalls, then for me one of the biggest dreams of my Life true. I have been close to it once, but have not achieved it because of my rally accident. I’m not saying it’s happening, but if there’s a chance, I’ll think about it.” Kubica said.

The Williams move seems to have fallen apart for Kubica, as Williams are looking for some solid funding for that 2nd seat.

Ocon and Kubica were front runners initially but it seems like the duo have fallen out of favour, as Mercedes are not willing to offer their engines for a discount for Ocon to get the seat and Kubica does not have the required funding.

“We are already late. I wanted to know it yesterday. But I expect it to be clear in less than two weeks. “Claire Williams sounded different recently. She was looking for donors, and that could take time. It is important to find the best solution for the team.” Kubica said about his possible Williams 2019 contract.

According to what Kubica has to say, the Williams seat is all but gone from his hands as apparently the two parties don’t share the same goals going forward.

“It’s no secret that Williams looks for partners to fill Lance’s place. They landed a good litter with George Russell. It now depends on what Williams demands from the second driver. I can only help them if they have the same goal as me. It has to fulfill what I can offer them.” Kubica said.

Kubica had earlier admitted that he was close to Ferrari seat but they had to be cut short because of his accident. The Pole would now have another opportunity to join forces with the famous red team albeit this time in a more limited role.

Should he take it up?
