Rohit Sharma discloses how Suresh Raina's name continuously pops up in the Indian team

Rohit Sharma discloses how Suresh Raina’s name: The two Indian cricketers were recently heard speaking on various fronts in an Instagram session.

India batsman Suresh Raina has once again asserted that he has it in him to play international cricket despite being out of the team for nearly two years now.

Speaking during an Instagram session alongside India limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma, Raina opened up on what all he did while sitting out of the Indian squad.

“I was correcting myself, I regained fitness after a knee injury and in the process, I also passed the yo-yo test. I put in a lot of hard work to get into the team, big players always supported me during my bad phase and I still have cricket left in me,” Raina was quoted as saying.

Despite last playing for India during the tour of England in 2018 and not playing competitive cricket since IPL 2019, Raina had exhibited interest in batting at No. 4 for India in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia.

Having scored 423 runs in 19 T20I innings at No. 4, Raina is the highest run-scorer at the given position among active Indian players. Raina, 33, has scored 803 runs in 33 T20Is at a strike rate of 142.88 and is only behind current India vice-captain Rohit Sharma and captain Virat Kohli in the list of most T20I runs scored by Indian batsmen outside Asia.

Rohit Sharma discloses how Suresh Raina’s name continuously pops up in the Indian team

Sharma, who has been very active on Instagram in the ongoing lockdown, disclosed Raina’s name continuously pops up in the Indian team. Sharma then pointed out how selection is not in the players’ hands and only selectors can answer reason behind not picking Raina in the Indian team.

“I know it is very tough to be out of the team after playing for so many years. We used to talk that we should have [Suresh] Raina in the team in some way.

“You have the experience and ability with bowling and fielding. I feel that we have seen you play for such a long time, somewhere I feel that somehow or the other you should be back in the team. But then we will see, we make do with what we have in our hands,” Sharma said.

Raina, who had recently received support from CSK teammate Ambati Rayudu regarding his international comeback, would have been looking forward to the now suspended 13th season of the Indian Premier League. With Raina also missing the last domestic season, IPL 2020 can put him back on the radar of the national selections.
