Romelu Lukaku racially abused in the Serie A while stepping up to take a penalty against Cagliari. This is not an isolated incident as Cagliari supporters are notorious for such chants.
Romelu Lukaku was subject to much mockery in the Premier League. His first touch and his body shape were topic of much discussion wherein the Belgian striker never came out looking good. However, this does not mean that he wasn’t prolific.
Lukaku is a world class striker who just did not fit Manchester United’s system. Therefore, he and the club decided to part ways and he moved to Inter Milan for greener pastures. However, the mockery hasn’t evaded him in the Serie A. He has now been subjected to a much worse form of abuse; Racism.
Romelu Lukaku scored in his first match for Inter during their 4-0 victory over Lecce in their opening game. The Belgian brute scored another in the 2-1 win against Cagliary. He was partnered by Lautaro Martinez who scored the opening goal in the 27th minute.
5 minutes into the second half and Cagliari equalized through Joao Pedro. It seemed that the points would be shared by both sides. However, Fabio Pisacane conceded a penalty in the 70th minute. Romelu Lukaku stepped up to take the penalty and that’s when the incident occurred.
Romelu Lukaku racially abused in the Serie A
Cagliari supporters attempted to derail Lukaku with Monkey Chants. However, the Belgian avoided the disgraceful distraction and coolly placed the ball behind the keeper to score the winning goal.
Cagliari fans are a different breed, last season they were doing monkey chants to Moise Kean now they’re doing it to Lukaku. I feel for black players in Italy. pic.twitter.com/59IGWFf2iY

Astonishing behavior from group of Cagliari fans!!!!! Once again racist monkey chants as Lukaku goes to take a penalty. That’s one season removed from Moise Kean incident. Something HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS

Teams should be required to have a system of surveillance where they can properly identify and then give our life time bans to these idiots. While giving a stadium ban, fine or docking points will sting temporarily, these “fans” will find their way back into stadium eventually

This is not an isolated incident and Cagliari is notorious for such behaviour. The same has happened with Moise Kean and Blaise Matuidi in the last two seasons before. It is high time the league does something about it. Nobody deserves to be victimised. Not the least while playing a sport they love the most.
