Sam Curran sixes: Super Kings all-rounder hits sixes off Krunal Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah as CSK beat MI in IPL 2020 season opener

Sam Curran sixes: The rookie all-rounder hit two sixes when it mattered the most for Chennai Super Kings in Abu Dhabi tonight.

During the first match of the ongoing 13th season of the Indian Premier League between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in Abu Dhabi, Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Sam Curran made his debut for the franchise count by guiding them to a 5-wicket victory in the season opener.

Coming in to bat ahead of captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni at No. 6, Curran surprised one and all with both his batting number and what he did with it in a crunch situation.

Needing 27 runs to win off 15 balls, Curran hit his second ball for a proper six against Mumbai all-rounder Krunal Pandya. On the following delivery, the southpaw hit a short delivery over the cover region for a boundary to bring down the equation to 17 off 13.

Continuing to prove Dhoni’s decision correct, Curran hit Mumbai fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for his second six over mid-wicket to put his team in a comfortable position. Curran, 22, might have departed on the next ball after scoring 18 (6) at a strike rate of 300 but it was enough for CSK to seal the chase in the last over.

It was a 115-run partnership for the third wicket between Faf du Plessis (58*) and Ambati Rayudu (71) which laid the foundation of Super Kings’ victory.

Earlier, it was Dhoni who won the toss and chose to field. With Saurabh Tiwary (42) top-scoring for Indians, the team put on board 162/9 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Chennai’s Lungi Ngidi was the pick of their bowlers with bowling figures of 4-0-38-3.
