Sehwag on Indian openers vs Australia: Former India opening batsmen picked his opening combination for the first Test vs Australia.

With India’s lone practice match currently going on, all the eyeballs are turning towards the much-awaited Test series which will begin on December 6 at Adelaide.

While the T20I series ended up in a 1-1 draw, fans and cricketers themselves would be hoping for a result in the Test series, which is expected to be a tightly fought contest between the two teams.

Given the massive change in conditions from where India played their last Test, one expects them to make a couple of major changes to their team. Among the required changes for India is also their opening combination.

In Lokesh Rahul, Prithvi Shaw and Murali Vijay, India have three specialist openers in their 18-member squad. While Rahul and Shaw had opened for India in their last Test against Windies at Hyderabad, the former’s poor form of late might make India play Vijay ahead of him.

Post former India captain Sunil Gavaskar sharing his opinion on India’s opening combination for the Adelaide Test, another former captain and opening batsman in Virender Sehwag was vocal about it.

In a video conversation for Cricbuzz, Sehwag laid emphasis on persisting with Rahul and Shaw not just for the first Test but throughout the series for he believed that Vijay had already got his chances.

“I think if I am the captain I will give full series to KL Rahul and Prithvi Shaw because Murali Vijay got his chance and now he has to wait for his chance again. If somebody flops in eight innings then I will think of giving Murali Vijay a chance. I think those who have been waiting for their turn should get fair chance to prove themselves,” Sehwag was quoted.
