Ramos on Modric winning UEFA Best Award

Ramos on Modric winning UEFA Best Award: If there is one player who deserved the award, it is Luka.

Luka Modric had a fantastic campaign in 2017/18 with his club and country as the Croat went on to lift another UEFA Champions League title in the colours of Real Madrid. As usual, the 32 year old was very instrumental in the Whites’ success and proved why he is among the best midfielders in the world.

Similarly, his exploits for Croatia made sure that the Balkan nation raised a lot of eyebrows as they went on to the FIFA World Cup Final in Russia. Subsequently, Modric was rewarded with the FIFA World Cup’s Golden Ball for being the standout player in the quadrennial tournament.

He then began to rack up individual awards and is also in contention for FIFA’s The Best Award and the Ballon D’or. However, last week he did pick up two more prestigious awards- UEFA Best Midfielder of 2017/18 and UEFA Best Player Award. It was a win against the odds for the star midfielder but certainly a deserved man.

Apparently, Cristiano Ronaldo, who is now of Juventus decided to snub the award ceremony amid being unhappy about his former teammate winning the awards in Monaco last week. Ronaldo did win the UEFA Best Forward award but refused to turn up to the ceremony without informing most of UEFA’s representatives.

However, Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has had his say over the award and asserted that Luka Modric deserved the recognition over Sergio Ramos. “I do not think Cristiano is unhappy because Modric won the award,” Ramos told reporters as quoted by Football Espana

“Maybe he is unhappy because he did not win it, but not because a team-mate did instead. I think if there is one player who deserves this award then it is Luka.” he added.

The majority of Real Madrid players are currently on international duty following three La Liga wins on the bounce. Next up, they face Athletic Bilbao at the San Mames in nearly two weeks’ time in a match that promises to be a stern contest
