South African spinner, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Indian skipper, Virat Kohli had an entertaining contest between them throughout the tour. The left-arm chinaman bowler chirped around the Indian skipper whenever the opportunity arose. However, that could not stop Kohli from smashing 429 runs from the 6-match ODI series.

Virat Kohli, however, lived up to his reputation by sledging Shamsi when the tail-ender came into bat with a chest pad on during the 5th ODI of the series. The banter battle on that day was won by Kohli, as India captured the 5th ODI by 73 runs.

It is important to note that both Kohli and Shamsi had previously been team-mates at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) during Shamsi’s stint at the IPL side.

After wrapping up the ODI series, Shamsi and Kohli continued their battle to the T20I series, but this time the wrist-spinner had a good time. Tabraiz Shamsi trapped the Indian skipper in front, as Kohli missed a conventional wrist-spinning delivery from Shamsi. Shamsi went on to do an Imran Tahir-esque celebration, running wildly around the ground, celebrating the big scalp.

The recently turned 28-year-old, however, expressed his gratitude on Twitter for taking the wicket of “one of the best batsman in the history of the game.” Shamsi posted a collage on Twitter of stills from his celebration during the 1st T20I: Such an amazing feeling getting my first International T20 wicket yesterday…. and to get one of the best batsmen in the history of the game made it even sweeter

This was Shamsi’s first international T20 wicket, after he went wicket less during his first two T20Is against England.

Shamsi and Kohli face off again at the Centurion on Wednesday.
