He has been out of favour from the Australian limited overs side for some time now, but has been plying his trade in domestic T20 leagues all around the world(BBL, PSL and CPL).
Known for his all round ability, Watson is a multi utility players, as he can bat at the top and in the middle order, and will bowl you those crucial overs in the power play upfront and at the death as well.
Watson is ecstatic to have been picked by the Chennai franchise and is super excited to play under MS Dhoni this time round.
“It is going to be a real honour to play for such a great franchise with the history that the Chennai Super Kings have, and the thought of playing under the great Mahendra Singh Dhoni excites me a lot,” said Shane Watson.
Watson has played 8 seasons for Rajasthan Royals, who have a very fierce rivalry with the Chennai Super Kings, ever since the first IPL final, where RR- The Moneyball team came out on top.
Watson feels it would be a little strange to don the yellow, having worn the blue for so long but is sure that he’ll get used to it.
“It is going to be a little strange initially as CSK were one of Rajasthan’s big rivals which started way back in the first year of the IPL.
“But it won’t take that long to subside,” said the Australian.
Watson retired from International cricket in March 2016, but is still motivated enough to train and play cricket!
“I still absolutely love playing the game, which is an easy motivation in itself. I still love the thrill of the unknown of every game and I am extremely competitive and so I have no problem with motivation at all for each game,” he added.
Watson feels that CSK have a very strong core, with MS Dhoni, Bravo, Raina and Jadeja being the core of the side.
“Any CSK squad with Dhoni, (Suresh) Raina and (Ravindra) Jadeja as a starting point is going to be incredibly good and is always going to compare really well to the previous years,” said Watson.
The IPL is scheduled to begin on the 7th of January, with CSK and MI locking horns at the Wankhede.
