BCCI had announced the Test squad for the one-off game against Afghanistan yesterday and Thakur was included in it. However, the good news didn’t last long for Thakur as he received the news of his parents’ accident last night as well.
He has rushed to Mumbai to visit his parents and his participation in the next game remains doubtful.
The accident took place at around 8pm on Tuesday when Shardul’s father Narendra Thakur and mother Hansa Thakur were returning home.
They were traveling back on a motorcycle after attending a wedding ceremony in Alyali, Palghar. But on their way back, the bike skidded near Sundaram school, with the area undergoing a road construction under no streetlights.
Doctors have confirmed that the couple have suffered minor injuries but are out of danger now.
After the accident took place, the local people of the place rushed the parents of the cricketer to Dr Dhawale Charitable Hospital at Palghar.
Dr Prakash Gudsoorkar, an ortho surgeon, detected a brain clot during a CT scan and then at around 11pm Narendra shifted to Lilavati Hospital, Bandra for better treatment. The mother of the cricketer got minor injuries and she has been discharged now.
“The patient is diabetic with hypertension and already had undergone two heart surgeries and suffered intracranial bleeding (intern bleeding of skull and brain) and was vomiting, hence we advised him to be shifted to the Mumbai hospital while his wife has been discharged as she suffered minor injuries”, the doctor said as quoted by Hindustan Times
CSK might miss the services of Thakur for the next game, having already lost out on Mark Wood(returned home for county cricket) and Deepak Chahar(out with a hamstring injury).
