Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan is in good shape at the moment. At the top, he is making the most of the form in adding up good numbers for himself as well as for the team.

Dhawan was named the player of the match for his belligerent performance with the bat, essaying a flamboyant 80 off 52 balls eclipsing 10 fours and two sixes respectively.

India were invited to bat first by the visitors and it was significant for the hosts to put a timid start. At one end, Rohit started a tad slow and Dhawan had to take calculated risks and played some terrific shots from ball one.

On combining the game with a blend of caution and aggression, Dhawan was able to give total chaos to the Kiwis’ bowlers. The Kiwis who set a trap for Dhawan trapped the Kiwis themselves. It was Dhawan’s day as he lit up fireworks quite well.

After earning the man of the match, Dhawan was happy with how things went on the side of him. It’s just the confidence that he is building at the moment.

With the ability to attack right from ball one makes him a potential asset. He admitted that he loves playing all three formats. He wants to take care of his fitness in a bid to compete with the 25-year-olds.

“I was very happy with the way I batted today. I haven’t really performed well in this format. Rohit started off slightly slow, so I had to take up the aggressor’s role. I can play anywhere on the ground.

I tried to play behind the ball and it worked for me. I love all three formats. I think I have the ability to play all formats. I want to stay fit and compete with the 25-year-olds.” Shikhar Dhawan told at the post-match presentation.
