Sindhu vs Yamaguchi highlights: Sindhu reaches Asian Games badminton final and becomes the first Indian woman to do so. She won 21-17, 15-21, 21-10.
PV Sindhu has been marshalling India’s badminton troops for sometime now, paving way for badminton to become a household sport in India.
The movement was largely triggered by Saina Nehwal’s performances on the International circuit and the baton has now well and truly been passed to Sindhu, who is determined to take Saina’s work a step further.
In the World Championship that was held this year, Sindhu had to settle for silver and had expressed her concern over losing a lot of finals in her career. She was determined to first make it to the final in Jakarta and then approach it in a different way.
Well, today she has taken the first step towards correcting her final hoodoos, by reaching the Asian Games final, beating Japan’s Yamaguchi in an intense match.
A Saina-Sindhu final was looming large, coming into this day. However, Saina couldn’t get past the brilliance of Tai Tzuying in the morning.
Sindhu has created history, by becoming the first female athlete to reach the finals of the Asian Games, beating Yamaguchi(the World no.2) in 3 intense sets of Badminton.
Sindhu romped through to a first set lead but lost steam in the 2nd set, not able to move as well as she would have wanted to.
She lost the 2nd set and it seemed like the tide had turned in Yamaguchi’s favour. However, Sindhu rose to the occasion in the decider, blowing away the World no.2 with her all court play, using her reach to tremendous effect.
This is how Twitter reacted to Sindhu’s win:

Sindhu changes ends with a four point advantage. The rallies are getting longer and the third seed will have to ensure that she doesn’t lift her leg from the accelerator and keep playing attacking badminton #AsianGames2018 pic.twitter.com/MAZApjHjMw
