We may expect a flurry of departures from Old Trafford this summer, and club’s manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has just confirmed one.
Manchester United may oversee a squad overhaul in the upcoming summer as the side aims to challenge for the title race in the 2019/20 season.
The club is currently at sixth in the Premier League table and faces an uphill task to secure Champions League qualification places. After a bright start under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United lost pace after their stunning victory over PSG at Parc des Princes.
The side lost four of their five games since the game in France, and fear an exit in the quarterfinal of the Champions League – unless, the players could repeat the heroics of the round-of-16.
Meanwhile, Solskjaer also talked about the summer, and confirmed that one Manchester United will leave the club.
Solskjaer confirms one Manchester United departure:
Manchester United’s long-serving defender and club captain Antonio Valencia will leave the side at the end of the season.
There have been speculations surrounding the player’s future, and Valencia also posted an emotional message for the club’s supporters a few weeks ago. Solskjaer, in an interview with BBC, confirmed his exit in the summer.
Valencia joined United in 2009 as a winger, and played as an attacker for many years. However, injuries forced him to adopt the role in defence under Louis van Gaal, and Valencia has since played as a right-back.
This season, he spent most of his time on the sidelines owing to injuries.
When asked about who could be the future captain for the side, Solskjaer confirmed Valencia’s departure.
“We’ve had Antonio, he’s going,” Solskjaer said.
“We’ve had Ashley [Young], we’ve had Paul [Pogba] and David [de Gea]. Chris [Smalling] has been captain. There are players here who can be captain on the pitch. We just need to decide who’s going to be the voice in and around.”
There have been speculations surrounding the future of Ander Herrera as well, with various reports suggesting that he will leave the club in the summer for PSG.

Ole has confirmed that Antonio Valencia will be leaving the club at the end of the season. He’s been a good servant over the years but this is 100% the right decision. The rebuilding process has started.
