Anthony Martial signed a new deal with the club last year. However, Solskjaer has revealed fascinating details on how Ronaldo helped the process.

Manchester United have been in fine form this season. The side registered eight consecutive victories in as many games under Solskjaer before finally dropping points earlier this week, as Burnley held United to a 2-2 draw.

The side remains sixth in the Premier League but is only two points behind both, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Solskjaer stated in the press conference earlier today that Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial are fit for the game against Leicester on Sunday, and that the only first-team player out of action would be Marcos Rojo.

Anthony Martial signed a new contract with the club last month, tieing him down to United until 2024. Solskjaer has now disclosed how Cristiano Ronaldo, who was a part of the club for six seasons from 2003 to 2009, helped Martial sign a new deal.

How Ronaldo helped Anthony Martial sign a new contract:

Solskjaer stated that he used the example of Cristiano Ronaldo in how Anthony Martial could be successful at Old Trafford.

“I’ve been here for 15 years, coach, player, now manager and I know how much this club can give to your career and what you can give to the club,” Solskjaer began.

“I’m here to help the club and I’m just being honest with him that for me this was the best place to be.

“I speak about my experience at this club, what he can achieve at this club because I think he can achieve a lot.”

The interim manager further stated that he talked to Martial about Ronaldo’s career.

“When you sit him [Martial] down and talk to him, for example, about Cristiano’s career, what he’s made of his career and how he’s got there and we talk about all the fantastic players with the history they’ve got.

“I think Anthony just sat down and said, ‘If I can be a part of this I’d like to’. I believe and the club believes we have got a top player there.”

In the press conference before the game against Leicester City, Solskjaer stated that the club believes in his potential.

“It’s a confirmation that we are happy with him. We believe in him. He’s got fantastic potential, he’s had ups and downs, he’s been top scorer, he’s been developing, as a young lad moving abroad it’s not easy but he knows he’s going to stay here for the coming future and I believe in him,” said the caretaker manager.
