Former Indian Captain Sourav Ganguly believes that MS Dhoni is one of the greats of the game and the crowd should not boo Dhoni.

Speaking to India Tv, Ganguly was very candid with his thoughts on Dhoni. He said:

“People should not boo, for Dhoni is a great player. We don’t even know whether India will ever get another wicketkeeper-batsman like him again. And even if we get, it would ages hence. So, people shouldn’t boo. But yes, he has been finding it difficult with the bat, is unable to rotate the strike. He should play openly, play his own game, that is what he is good at.

When Dhoni had arrived at a younger age he used to hit a lot of sixes and he should continue with it. Sometimes you feel whether he still has the capability to strike like before but until you do it how will you know. He needs to go hard, hit sixes and only then will he get the confidence to pick up singles.”

Dhoni was in form in the IPL but after coming to UK, he has looked a bit scratchy. Ganguly said that IPL and international cricket are different in various respects.

“There is a difference in the standard of cricket and the quality of bowling along with the conditions. And that is a 20-over cricket, there you have to hit and he delivers it there. Dhoni has to emulate the same here. When he arrived in 2005, he would hit sixes.

“When we went to Pakistan, he would hit sixes there as well. He should bat like that even now. The team management should sit down with him and tell him that you play at No.6 and when you get the chance just hit the ball because that is your game,” the former Indian Captain concluded.
