South Africa vs Sri Lanka Warm-up Match Preview: TSR presents Predicted Playing 11, Toss prediction and Weather report for tomorrow’s clash

The run for the mega title has almost begun and will stare at us for May 24, 2019, when teams will lock horns against each other in the warm-up fixtures before the main tournament commencing on May 30, 2019.

While Pakistan will clash against their South-Asian neighbours Afghanistan on May 24, South Africa will play against the transition prone Sri Lankans in the 2nd encounter, at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, the same day.

The teams will be allowed to bring into play, all of their 15 players at some point in time during the match. The last time these two teams clashed against each other, the Lankans were outplayed by the Proteas 0-5 at the end of the ODI series in March, 2019.

Form Guide

The Proteas side have won all of their last 5 ODI series, the recent one being the aforementioned against Sri Lanka, where they handed them a heavy drubbing, winning the series 5-0.

The bowling department under Kagiso Rabada and Imran Tahir have been in stellar form off-late, while batsmen like Quinton De Kock and their skipper Faf Du Plessis have had a phenomenal IPL season which concluded recently.

On the other hand, the Sri Lanka side are going through a very rough patch in ODI cricket, having lost 5 of their previous 6 ODI series, including the Asia Cup in 2018. The recent series they won was against the low-ranked Scottish side, that too in a mere one-match series. Moreover, in a rather very surprising move, the Sri Lankan management have named the inexperienced batsmen, Dimuth Karunaratne as their skipper for the World Cup.

South Africa vs Sri Lanka- Predicted Top playing 11

Although in a warm-up match any of the 15 players in the squad can be given an opportunity at some point in time during the game, the team management always has the 11 players in their mind, who they deserve should get into their grooves, and play themselves in more than the other players.

For the Proteas, almost every aspect of their game seems to be sorted out, but it is their inconsistency that has led them down at the most crucial junctures of the marquee tournament. However, with some new comers in their side they would try to mix it up and look for that perfect blend of youth and experience in their side.

Chris Morris, who has been roped in after their pacer Anrich Nortje gor injured, would be monitered by the management as to how he performs. He is expected to get a game. Also, the veteran batsman Hashim Amla, who is not going through the best of forms off-late, will be itching to make a mark, and what better than against a team like Sri Lanka. David Miller too, has not lived up to his potential off-late and would get a game for sure.

For the Lankans, every other player needs to get a match game. With Malinga back in the side, they will gain some confidence for sure. Veteran players like Angelo Mathews and Lahiru Thirimanne would be eying to get back to form before the main tournament begins.

South Africa vs Sri Lanka- Pitch and Weather Condition

With scattered showers and 40% precipitation tomorrow in Cardiff, rain might play a spoilsport tomorrow. The temperature will remain at 18 degrees Celsius.

The Pitch will remain a batting track, as is the case with almost all the English wickets. Inclement weather might assist the pacers from each side as well.

Toss prediction

Whoever wins the toss would definitely look to bat first and garner some batting form ahead of the main tournament. The relatively flat decks in England might tempt the veterans like Angelo Mathews and Hashim Amla to come back to form as soon as possible.

Where would the match telecast?

With the official broadcaster Star, deciding to broadcast all the warm-up matches, the clash between the two sides will be broadcast live on the Star Sports network and Hotstar, and will commence from 03:00 IST.
