Indian Premier League franchise SunRisers Hyderabad captain David Warner appears to be missing the 13th season of the cash-rich league which was scheduled to commence last month.
Delayed till April 15, IPL 2020 is one of the many cricket tournaments which have been affected by the novel COVID-19 pandemic.
Warner, 33, posted a hilarious video on his Instagram handle where he is seen emulating India and Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s archetype “sword celebration“.
In the video posted by the Australian opening batsman, he is seen swinging a cricket bat for an advertisement campaign before IPL 2019.
“Throwback to this time last year to a commercial we were doing for @sunrisershyd Do you think I’ve got @royalnavghan covered for the sword??,” read Warner’s caption.
Warner, who had missed IPL 2018 as an aftermath of his involvement in the Cape Town Ball Tampering Scandal, top-scored upon comeback in IPL 2019. In 12 matches for SRH, the southpaw had amassed 692 runs at an average of 69.20 and a strike rate of 143.86 including one century and eight half-centuries.
It was in February this year that Warner was reinstated as the captain by SunRisers Hyderabad ahead of IPL 2020. While there were some doubts regarding Australian players’ participation in IPL 2020, Warner’s manager had made it clear that the cricketer would travel to India despite restrictions.
Warner, who had recently nominated India and Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli for shaving his head to show support for COVID-19 workers, receiving laughing emojis from Kohli on his video. Apart from Kohli, India and SRH wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha also reacted on the post.
