Inspired by Liverpool

Last month, in an interview with The Guardian, Ali had spoken about how Liverpool winning the Champions league had inspired him to want to do the same in the World cup.

“This morning I woke up and thought about the way this Liverpool side have got people talking,” says Moeen. “It’s not just results either, people have bought into how the club is being run, how they play their football and what they stand for.”

“Look at a player like Divock Origi. No one was talking about the guy and then suddenly he becomes a hero. I reckon in playgrounds all around the country kids will now be pretending they are him and re‑enacting that goal.”

“It makes you think, both as a player and as a team, what we could achieve this summer. Imagine what it would be like if we got to the World Cup final and won it.”

Moeen Ali, a batting all-rounder, made his ODI debut against the West Indies on 28 February 2014. He scored 44 runs before being dismissed and took his maiden ODI wicket in that match. His hundredth is against Sri Lanka in the ongoing ICC World Cup.

England are currently third in the points table. However, a win today will take them to the top.
