Steven Gerrard wearing a United shirt: In his autobiography, the Liverpool legend shared an incident when we wore the United jersey.
Liverpool will take on Manchester United at Anfield this weekend. The game between both the sides at Liverpool’s home ground ended in a stalemate last year.
Even when Manchester United are having a difficult season so far, (the club is 6th in the league) the rivalry between both the sides makes it one of the most awaited games in England’s top flight.
Jose Mourinho hasn’t lost to Jurgen Klopp since arriving at Old Trafford, and would aim to continue the record, as well as ending Liverpool’s unbeaten run in the league. The Anfield side is the only undefeated team in the league at the moment.
As both the clubs clash this weekend, here’s a story of Liverpool’s legend Steven Gerrard wearing a Manchester United jersey.. and its horrendous repercussions.
Steven Gerrard wearing a United jersey:
The former Liverpool captain, in his autobiography, ‘Gerrard,’ has shared an incident about him wearing a Manchester United jersey – an idea which didn’t go down particularly well with this father.
The story dates back to 1991, when Gerrard would’ve been eleven years old. Gerrard has been a huge fan of Bryan Robson, and it was during a football game with his friends, when he learnt about the intensity of the rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester United.
A mate of mine owned this Robson top, the old blue and white one with dashes on it,” Gerrard wrote in his autobiography.
Liverpool host Manchester United on Sunday and it’ll be the 10th Premiership meeting between the clubs since Liverpool last beat them.

“We were kicking about on Ironside and I asked him whether I could be Robson for a while. I slipped out of my Liverpool shirt, and put the Robson one on.
“It felt fantastic. I wore it for an hour, charging all over, flying into tackles, scoring brave goals, pretending I was Robson.
“Unfortunately, dad looked out the window and went ballistic,” Gerrard wrote.
The Rangers manager revealed that his father ordered him to remove the United jersey immediately, stating that he even considered moving houses!

“Get inside now!’ he screamed. Scarcely through the door, I ran into a right good grilling. ‘What the hell are you playing at, wearing a Manchester United shirt? he asked.
“‘But dad, it’s Bryan Robson’s shirt,’ I explained. Dad couldn’t have cared less. ‘You should know better,’ he said. “It was a United strip, and dad wasn’t having any son of his dragging the Gerrard name through the Huyton gutter.
“What would the neighbours think? Honest to God, I thought I was going to have to move house! I was only a baby but I was convinced dad would kick me out for putting on that United shirt.”
