Luis Suarez has revealed how Barcelona players reacted when Lionel Messi promised the Camp Nou crowd that the side would bring the Champions League trophy home.

Barcelona has had a fairly impressive season so far. The side lifted the La Liga title last week as Lionel Messi’s goal gave the side a 1-0 win over Levante.

However, one of the priorities for this season has been the Champions League. Barcelona has been poor in the European tournament in the last three years – facing defeat in the quarterfinal stage in all the seasons.

However, Barca broke the barrier this season, as they outclassed Manchester United across the two legs. The Catalan giants face a tough test in the final four as they take on another Premier League side, Liverpool.

Luis Suarez, meanwhile, revealed how Barcelona players reacted to Lionel Messi’s promise to winning the Champions League this season.

Luis Suarez on Messi’s promise:

The Argentine superstar has been immense for Barcelona this season. Messi is currently the highest goalscorer for the club this season across all the competitions, and played a key role in the game against Levante which secured the La Liga title for the side.

Before the beginning of the season, Lionel Messi made a vow to the Barcelona supporters concerning their disappointments in the Champions League.

“We promise that we will do everything possible so that this beautiful cup returns to the Camp Nou again,” Messi had said before the Joan Gamper Trophy game against Boca Juniors in August.

Luis Suarez has now revealed how the players reacted to the declaration from Lionel Messi.

“We joked: ‘You said it, it’s up to you to do it, then!’” Suarez told Guardian.

“He surprised us but if the captain wants to win the cup so much, why wouldn’t we? It was a clear message.

“”It’s not an obligation but we want to win it. It’s not easy, that’s for sure. It’s very hard, very difficult – like the leagues are.”
