Sunil Chhetri came up with a wonderful and worrisome tweet for Indian football fans last night, pleading them to visit the stadium in order to cheer for the Indian football team during the ongoing Intercontinental cup in Mumbai.

The inaugural game of the tournament saw just 2500 people turn up for the game, something that was disappointing for the players.

Chhetri wanted to address the fact that Indians do take a lot of pride in supporting their respective European Clubs but haven’t really shown that kind of passion for the Indian football team.

He conceded that the quality of Indian football is not as good as that of their European counterparts but that it can only improve if constant motivation is driven into the system as a whole.

In order to drive a footballing culture in India, it is very important for the fans to take notice and support their local teams and especially the Indian national team that is progressing in the world circuit with every passing day.

Chhetri’s plea is pretty simple, one in which he wants fans to come to the stadium and get a feel for Indian football.

If the level is bad, they should go out and abuse the team, shout at them, but they should try and stick by their side, because we are all in this together.

A lot of eminent sports personalities and Indian fan clubs have come out in support of this gesture from Sunil Chhetri, as they feel the Indian captain has taken a bold step in encouraging people to actually go to these stadiums and witness their national team play.

Suresh Raina too took to social media to show his support for the game of football and for Chhetri’s message.
