3) Jones returns to action

jonesUnited’s team sheet announced the return of Phil Jones. This marked the first appearance of the season for the injury prone defender.

Jones, who joined United from Blackburn in 2011, has suffered a succession of injuries over the years. This has prevented him from establishing himself in the first team.

The 2015-16 season was Jones’ worst, with just 13 first appearances. Now a string of injuries to United’s defenders seems to have temporarily opened the door was Jones. It remains to be seen how he utilizes this opportunity.
