Tammy Abraham Contract: Timo Werner’s arrival can cost doubts over Abraham’s contract extension with the club this summer.
Timo Werner’s probable arrival is certainly an alarm for Tammy Abraham who enjoyed the status of being Chelsea’s priority striker this season until the pandemic hit it.
The English International would continue to be regular in the playing XI of Chelsea once the season resumes but there is no guarantee of him getting regular minutes with the Blues.
Overall Abraham had a phenomenal season, the 22-year-old striker bagged 15 goals and 6 assists in the 34 games he had played this season, phenomenal considering this is his debut season with the senior team.
However, the Atheltic reports that with Werner signing in for Chelsea, Abraham’s contract extension talks are falling in jeopardy, with the player yet to figure out his role with the club.
As per the report, “those around Abraham say he is keeping an open mind about Werner’s arrival. He always expected Chelsea to sign a new attacker in this transfer window, and he will back himself to win any battle to be Lampard’s starting striker.”
“Don’t be surprised, however, if he decides to wait until he has a better idea of what the new arrival will mean for his game time before revisiting the contract question.”
Athletic further claims that Lampard is trying to follow on the lines, what Lampard experienced as a player earlier in Chelsea from his predecessors, with Didier Drogba formed a prolific partnership with Nicolas Anelka.
Werner under Julian Nagelsmann has often been deployed as a left side inward forward, instead of being a conventional striker. Thus, maybe Lampard hired him to form a formidable partnership with Abraham, even though this system has been abandoned by the Premier League teams.

Apart from this, there is obviously money in the picture too, Abraham’s scoring spree gives him a bargaining power but the bosses at Chelsea would be seeking more from him to match the package of £120,000-a-week basic salary rewarded to Callum Hudson Odoi last summer.
