Gianluigi Buffon

The Italian legend played in his last ever European championship game after Italy were knocked out after one of the most comical penalty shootout of all time. Buffon was near perfect during the entire game, keeping out all German attempts.

Italy lost out because according to the rules, we need a winner. Buffon is an absolute legend of Football, one who will be missed at future European Championships.

Team of the Quarter Finals

Mats Hummels

The newly signed Bayern Munich man is probably the best centre half in the world right now. Hummels was rock solid against Italy , he covered really well for Hector and Howdens in a makeshift back 3 selected by Joachim Loew.

He will be a big miss in the semifinals for Germany after being suspended for picking up two yellow cards in the tournament.

Team of the Quarter Finals

Ashley Williams

The Swansea City defender led by example and put in a fantastic performance against Belgium. He equalized for his side with a brilliant header just before half time.

He was rock solid in the second half as he kept the like of Romelu Lukaku , Eden Hazard , and Kevin De Bruyne quiet. Truly a Captain’s performance , one when Wales needed him most.

Team of the Quarter Finals

 Leonardo Bonucci

The Juventus defender was at par with almost all of Germany’s attacks. The game was pretty even as both defences cancelled each other out in 120 minutes.

Bonucci scored the first ever penalty of his International career against Manuel Neuer to get his country level. He was really unfortunate to have missed one the shootout.

Team of the Quarter Finals
Dimitri Payet

Dimitri Payet has been one of the star performers of Euro 2016. He continued his good form against Iceland as France won comfortably 5-2. He had a goal and an assist on the night and was a constant menace for the Icelandic defence.

Team of the Quarter Finals

Aaron Ramsey

Aaron Ramsey is looking like a changed man at the European Championships. The arsenal man was superb against Belgium and assisted 2 of Wales’s 3 goals. He will be a really big miss for Chris Coleman in the Semi Finals.

Team of the Quarter Finals

Mesut Ozil

Ozil controlled the German midfield and created several chances for his teammates. His goal was really well taken and one which he deserved.

Team of the Quarter Finals

Renato Sanches

The 18 year old has shown flashes of Genius . At the tender age of 18 he can play as a attacking midfielder and a winger. He equalized brilliantly against Poland and kept his cool to convert in the penalties.

Team of the Quarter Finals

Antoine Griezmann

Antoine Griezmann’s superb form continued after he scored a brilliant chip for his fourth goal of the tournament, making him the top scorer in the tournament. He also assisted France’s second goal , delivering a pinpoint ball for Pogba to head in.

Team of the Quarter Finals

 Hal Robson-Kanu

Robson Kanu was the only Welsh Player without a club coming into the championships. He scored a brilliant goal , one which would have made the late Johan Cruyff proud which may quite possibly go down as the goal of the tournament.
