Why was Mourinho sacked

Why was Mourinho sacked: Jose Mourinho was relieved of his duties as Manchester United’s manager last week.

Jose Mourinho left Manchester United last week after more than two years at the club. The Portuguese manager has had a tough start to his third season at Old Trafford, and the situation worsened after relationships between him and the players soured.

Manchester United had only 26 points from 16 games in the league at the time of the sacking. Former club star Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed as the interim manager.

Luis Campos, the current sporting director at French side Lille, has now disclosed the reason behind Mourinho’s sacking.

Campos worked with Mourinho during his time at Real Madrid as a scout, and had a 90-minute conversation with the former United manager last week.

Why was Mourinho sacked?

Jose Mourinho had a troubled relationship with his players during his third season at the club. The controversies surrounding Mourinho and midfielder Paul Pogba headlined the football pages, and the situation became worse after the duo was caught arguing during a training session.

Campos has now revealed that his fall-out with Paul Pogba played a major role in his sacking.

“Absolutely,” Campos stated, on being asked whether his relationship with Pogba resulted in the sack. However, he stated that the results were a big factor as well.

“But it come down to results. When a team isn’t performing, the coach pays for it,” said Campos.

He revealed that Mourinho wasn’t able to implement his philosophy because he lost the dressing room.

“He wasn’t capable of implementing his style.”

During his time at Manchester United, Jose Mourinho won three trophies, including the club’s first ever Europa League title in 2016/17. After leading the club to a second-place finish a season later, Mourinho failed to inspire the side to compete for the title in his third season.

What next?

Manchester United have returned to winning ways under Solskjaer, as the club scored five league goals in his first game in-charge for the first time since Sir Alex’s farewell match.

The side will return to action on Sunday as United takes on Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth.
