“If There’s a Racetrack Near Me…”: Daniil Medvedev Professes Love for F1 With Post-Retirement Plans
Daniil Medvedev was talking about his love for Formula 1 post his victory over Alex de Minaur. The Russian is currently competing in the China Open and revealed his retirement plans. Medvedev, a vivid F1 fan, admitted his love for the sport and hinted that it could be his future after retirement from tennis.
This is not the first time Medvedev has mentioned his love for F1. The Russian has admitted in the past that he loves go karting because he is a very good driver. The fans can expect Medvedev at an F1 circuit very soon.
Daniil Medvedev loves Formula 1
Daniil Medvedev advanced to the third round of the China Open with a convincing 7-6, 6-3 win against Alex de Minaur. The Russian is the second seed in the competition and could either meet Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner in the final.
After the game, Medvedev was talking about his love for the F1 and admitted that he is a big fan. The Russian further added that he tries to watch Grand Prix races at every opportunity he gets. Medvedev believes that he is a great driver himself and mentioned that some his friends have praised his driving skills.
“I like Formula 1. In general I like different sports, but don’t have time to watch all of them. But about Formula 1, I love racing. I love doing myself karting. If somehow, somewhere there is a racetrack near to me, I try to race there. Apparently what I hear from people is I’m pretty good and talented at it. I love to hear that. Yeah, every time I have the opportunity to watch a Grand Prix, I watch it.”
The Russian further hoped that after his eventual retirement from tennis, he could get into car racing as his friends love it too but can’t race too often because of his busy schedule.
“Yeah, I honestly hope that after my career, I will have some opportunities to do some motor racing and stuff like this with my friends because I have a lot of friends who love it, too.”
Although there’s still plenty of tennis left in Medvedev, fans are excited to see his transition from tennis to car racing post retirement. With his determination and grit, it is hard to bet against Medvedev doing well in motorsports as well.

The Russian was spotted karting with his friends Alex Albon and countryman Daniil Kvyat, shortly after his defeat to Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open final of 2022. With a future in Formula One still far away, the Russian can always start building up for it further considering that he stays in Monte Carlo, which has one of the most unique F1 tracks in the world.
