Thiago has been long pinned with a return to FC Barcelona this season, and it seems the midfielder is interested in the move too.

Thiago Alcantara has had speculation surrounding his future since the opening of the transfer window. German newspaper Bild has now reported that the Spaniard is cleared to leave Bayern Munich soon. Newly appointed boss Niko Kovac wants to trim his squad and as a result is prepared to offload Thiago.

Expectedly, Barcelona are front-runners in their bid to re-sign the player they said farewell to five years ago for only €25 million. Along with the reigning Spanish champions, arch rivals Real Madrid are also interested following the appointment of former Spain head coach Julen Lopetegui.

However, the 27 year old prefers a move back to his boyhood club. The midfielder graduated through Barcelona’s world famous academy- La Masia- and went on to make a handful of appearances for the Blaugrana. Although, hunger for more play time along with the host of midfielders ahead of him already, Thiago departed.

Following the departures of Cesc Fabregas, Xavi and Andres Iniesta; Thiago now fancies a reunion with Barcelona. He is expected to smoothly fit into Ernesto Valverde’s system following his past knowledge about Barcelona football.

What remains to be seen now is how a deal is finalised on the transfer fees. Thiago’s owners Bayern are asking for €70 million, however, Barcelona remain confident of negotiating to a cheaper rate.

Thiago has consistently been a crucial starter for Bayern Munich. Last season, he appeared 31 times in a campaign where he worked under both- Ancelotti and Heynckes. He has also been a regular inclusion in Spain’s squad, including the Euro 2016 and World Cup 2018.
