Timo Werner to Chelsea: RB Leipzig club chief takes huge U-turn over German striker’s transfer to Chelsea, he claims Chelsea didn’t make contact.
A few days ago, several reports claimed that Timo Werner is about to make a move to Chelsea with the Blues triggering his release clause and he agreeing on an agreement with the Premier League club.
However, RB Leipzig’s club chief Oliver Mintzlaff made a surprising u-turn over the player’s future. According to him, there’s nothing new to Werner’s future.
“We are concentrating on the final part of the league. We want to get into the Champions League. That’s the only thing we’re discussing with Timo right now.”
“It was important for us to extend our contract with him last summer because we don’t want any players to leave for free,” Mintzlaff told Sky ahead of RB Leipzig’s Bundesliga game against Paderborn on Saturday.”
“We agreed to include an exit clause in his contract to give him the opportunity to take the next step, so he’s in the driver’s seat, not us. But so far, Timo Werner has not drawn the clause, nor has a club sent a transfer contract.”
“We haven’t had an exchange with Chelsea yet. Accordingly, we have nothing to report. Timo Werner is an RB Leipzig player. He signalled to us a few weeks ago that he’s working on a transfer, but nothing is in place at this point.”
However, this is nothing to worry about as most of the reliable reports are signalling towards Werner making a move, and this is something which is not rare before a big transfer.

Meanwhile, Chelsea is also aiming to land Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell to bolster their defence but the Foxes also have their set of demands which are expensive than Werner’s affairs.
