When you have been waiting in the ranks for a long time, you often get perturbed by the big occasion, because a no show could mean another long spell in the backyard. So, when Kuldeep Yadav was called in to replace Virat Kohli in the starting line up, he must have felt an itch in his stomach, yes it was a chance to play for India, but what if it didn’t turn out the way he had always wanted it to be? What if Smith and co. took a liking for him and smashed him to all corners?

Everyone has a fear of failure, because it sends you into unchartered territory, it forces you question your ability, something that you have worked on for years together. But nothing seemed to faze Kuldeep Yadav today. Yes, he was playing in the series decides, yes he was replacing Virat Kohli and yes he was about to bowl to his well equipped Australian batting unit, but he was up for the challenge and how.
A spell of trickery from the chinaman meant that Australia were pegged back despite their first session dominance. He got Warner with a one that bounced a little extra, Handscomb was beaten in the air and through the pitch as the ball sneaked through bat and pad. The momentum was then with Kuldeep as the batsmen weren’t able to pick him from the hand and had to wait till the ball pitched to pick it off the pitch. Major reason for that being the scrambled seam with which he bowls(both the google and the stock delivery).
Maxwell looked to take the attack to him but again he too couldn’t pick the wrong one and was completely squared by one that spun the other way. And then Pat Cummins just got decived in the air with the one that dipped a little on him to give Kuldeep a simple return catch.

Is Kuldeep Yadav the first Chinaman bowler to play for India? Hope the Dalai Lama blesses him in Dharamsala! 😄😄

Kuldeep Yadav is not, in fact, the first chinaman bowler to play for India. That honour went to Preeti Dimri in 2006. #INDvsAUS

Saw Kuldeep Yadav as an U-19 cricketer a couple of years ago. (Rabada was there too!) Noticeably quicker off the wicket since.

This is a fairy-tale debut for Kuldeep Yadav. Always something extra with the wrist spinner. And he can bat!
