During the second day of the second Test of the ongoing Pakistan’s tour of Australia in Adelaide, Australia opening batsman David Warner registered his maiden triple century in a magnificent effort.
Opening the batting with Joe Burns (4) yesterday, Warner ended a rain-curtailed Day 1 on 166*. It was a potentially match-winning 361-run partnership with all-rounder Marnus Labuschagne which saw the southpaw dominating the opposition bowlers.
It was on the last delivery of the 84th over that Warner ran a single off Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi to complete his double century. Having crossed the 250-run mark in the 104th over, Warner became the first Australian opening batsman to score achieve the landmark twice in Test matches.
The superlative milestone eventually came on the first delivery of the 120th over when Warner hit a four off Mohammad Abbas. With a lot of time left in the match, it will be interesting to watch Warner’s approach in the build up to the world record Test score of 400*.
Warner has become the first cricketer after Sir Don Bradman to cross the 290-run mark at the Adelaide Oval. The historic innings coming on the back of all that has happened around Warner in the last year or so speaks highly about his character in this format.
