Twitter reactions on Shikhar Dhawan’s magnificent century: Twitter was jubilant at watching the Indian opener play a magnificent knock.

During the 14th match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between India and Australia at The Oval, India opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan registered his 17th ODI century to provide India with a praiseworthy start.

Unable to score big on this tour so far, Dhawan banked on his records in ICC tournaments to score his sixth century in such a tournament. In ICC tournaments played in England, this is the 33-year old cricketer’s fourth ODI century.

Opening the batting with vice-captain Rohit Sharma, the pair shared a 127-run opening stand to start the innings on an affirmative not for India. The Indian innings started in an archetype manner where the opening batsmen aimed to focus on the getting their eyes in before opening up.

While Sharma was extremely watchful initially, Dhawan made sure that he scoreboard doesn’t get stuck. A handsome blend of running singles and doubles in association with scoring boundaries, Dhawan innings ticked most of the boxes.

On the fourth delivery of the 18th over, Dhawan ran a single off Marcus Stoinis to complete his half-century. Not wanting to throw away his start, the southpaw continued to play the ball on its merit. With Sharma (57) getting out in the 23rd over, Dhawan took the mantle on himself to take the Indian innings forward.

On the fourth ball of the 33rd over, Dhawan ran a single off Marcus Stoinis to reach the three-figure mark. Having won the toss, India captain Virat Kohli will be looking to post a formidable total from hereon.
