During the 27th match of the ongoing 12th season of the Indian Premier League between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals at Mumbai, Rajasthan Royals defeated Mumbai Indians by 4 wickets to register their second IPL 2019 win.
Chasing a 188-run target, Rajasthan Royals got off to a brilliant start on the back of a 60-run opening stand between captain Ajinkya Rahane (37) and batsman Jos Buttler. In what was a case of role reversal, Rahane was seen upping the ante as Buttler played the anchor role.
Post Rahane’s dismissal in the seventh over, Buttler and wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson stitched an 87-run partnership for the second wicket. With 41 runs required to win in 40 balls with eight wickets in hand, Royals appeared to seal the chase without much discomfort.
The equation came down to Royals needing 20 runs in four overs. However, RR continued to stumble as they lost four wickets in the span of nine balls. Despite nearly making a mess of what should have been an easy chase, RR ended up winning the match in the last over after Shreyas Gopal hit Mumbai all-rounder Hardik Pandya for a boundary through the mid-off region.
The visitors also remained lucky during the business end as they received a four off an outside edge in addition to MI’s fielders dropping two catches off consecutive deliveries.
Scoring his ninth IPL half-century, Buttler top-scored for Rajasthan. Before getting out in the 14th over, Buttler ended up scoring 89 (43) with the help of eight fours and seven sixes.
How Twitter reacted:
Shreyas Gopal has had a good day. Well done Rajasthan. They could’ve got there with a lot less heartache, but 2 points and their 2nd win in the end. Buttler the star of the day.

Rajasthan has made a Royal mess of this chase. These are the mental breakdowns that happen when your team has been on a losing streak.

Mumbai on the ropes. It’s been an outrageously brilliant chase yet by Rajasthan. Is there a better batsman than Butler in white ball cricket?

With the batting line up and variety that Mumbai have they ought to score 200 plus every time. They cannot afford to be 20 short all the time. Hardik should bat between overs 9-13 while Pollard should always bat between overs 16-20. Everyone else can float. #IPL2019
