While Khamzat Chimaev certainly likes to stay away from politics and does not voice his religious opinions, he did not hold back recently when a politician disrespected Islam. The UFC welterweight star is a Sunni Muslim and practices his religion. Thus, Chimaev voiced his opinion on the controversy.

Moreover, the UFC welterweight fighter also urged the people to not stay quiet following this incident. He said, “We all shouldn’t keep quiet. You call us brothers so show us some respect”

It is worth noting that this act was even disregarded by the Prime Minister of Sweden as well. He even expressed his sympathy for the people whose beliefs were disrespected by Rasmus Paludan.

Can Chimaev become the UFC welterweight champion?

As mentioned earlier, Chimaev has been on a tear since his arrival at the UFC. He has beaten guys like Gilbert Burns in the welterweight division and certainly stands as one of the top contenders in the division. Moreover, he is backed by many to win the championship in the 175lb division.

However, his last fight against Kevin Holland might have changed his trajectory a bit. His last fight was in the middleweight division, as he failed to make weight. He looked at home performing at a higher weight class. That said, it remains to be seen as to where Khamzat Chimaev will fight upon his return to the octagon.
