“Even hearing that it’s kinda odd”- Daniel Cormier isn’t sold on Jon Jones vs Mike Tyson but understands why Jones would want to go ahead with it.
Mike Tyson recently laid out a challenge for Jon Jones claiming that it was the reigning UFC lightweight heavyweight champion’s ticket to a massive payday. Jones accepted the challenge with the condition that Tyson would also have to step in the octagon.
Iron Mike is yet to respond to Jones answer. However, former UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has already expressed his disinterest in the fight; if it ever happens. Although, Cormier understands why Jones would want something like this to happen.
Daniel Cormier isn’t sold on Jon Jones vs Mike Tyson
“Really? That’s crazy. It’s odd. Even hearing that it’s kinda od,” Daniel Cormer told ESPN’s Ariel Helwani. “Like even hearing the whole interaction between the two is odd, so I’m just gonna ignore it. No sell. You know how they say you no-sold something? I’m no-selling this thing. I’m no-selling this thing right into the garbage can.”
“I think Mike was just talking. Mike’s just talking. Look man, I think when you’re in front of a camera like that and you’re just doing these things, like sometimes you just talk. And you’re just talking and talking and talking. And I think that’s one of those times where Mike was just talking. The reality is though, in order for Jones to make those types of dollars he’s gonna have to go fight a guy like that in boxing and get a boxing type of contract. So, it’s not wrong, you know what I’m saying? He’s not wrong, so yeah, still not interested in it.”
Jon Jones is currently in the middle of a contract dispute with UFC president Dana White. The Lightweight Champion believes he deserves a pay rise for a potential switch to the heavyweight division. This has led to a very public falling out that has seen Jones even threaten to vacate the title.
