Dana White confirms that Jon Jones is in the UFC Heavyweight title scenario, and will get the title shot right away.
2021’s heavyweight title scene will kick-start with next month’s Pay-Per-View event UFC 260. The much-awaited, Stipe Miocic Vs. Francis Ngannou is the headliner of the marquee show and will decide who takes the UFC heavyweight gold home.
While it is going to be an intriguing fight where both individuals will put their best foot forward, and anybody can come out on top, the course of the winner is already set.
According to Dana White, the winner of Stipe Miocic Vs. Francis Ngannou will face the division’s new entry, Jon Jones.
Dana White confirms Jon Jones’ heavyweight debut will be for the title
Even since Jon Jones relinquished the Light Heavyweight title and announced his arrival at the Heavyweight section, the endless flow of speculations hasn’t dozed off. Against who he will mark his Heavyweight debut is the prevalent question that is spread across the entire UFC circuit. And after months, clarity about his potential opponent has been finally delivered.
In an interview with TMZ, UFC president Dana White has confirmed that Jon Jones will await the winner of the forthcoming title bout between Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou, and will straightway get the title shot.
“We know what he wants,” White said. “He wants the winner of Stipe and Francis, so that fight has got to happen first.
“It should happen this year. It depends if that fight with Stipe and Francis goes off before summer. Then we could have (Jones vs. the winner) happen in the summertime.”
While if he indeed gets the title shot, the decision may receive some flak from other Heavyweight prospects, however, with the status Jon Jones holds and being considered as the G.O.A.T. by Dana White, it is apparently always a major possibility that his demands will get top priority.
