Khabib Nurmagomedov had the supposed knowledge of the chances Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor possessed against each other.
He may or may not have retired from UFC but, Khabib Nurmagomedov has proved that he knows the Lightweight division inside out. Back in December 2020, The current Pound-For-Pound No.1 fighter, Khabib addressed the scenario of the Lightweight division and zeroed down on the names of Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor as the favorites to win the title next.
At the presser in December, Khabib acknowledged the importance of the then-upcoming PPV UFC 257 and stated that one of the protagonists of its main event would wear his belt.
“Top three [lightweight] fighters right now? Poirier, McGregor, and Makhachev. He is not in the top-five yet, but those are the best fighters. My belt will be taken by the winner of Dustin and Conor,” Khabib said. (Source RT Sport)
At the same press event, he further quoted, he feels Dustin has reached his peak and has the best chance to win the Lightweight title.
While the showdown for the title is yet to take place and contenders are lining up but, the hindsight of UFC 257 tells that the Diamond is indeed the frontrunner to get hold of the Lightweight gold.

Will Khabib Return To UFC?
In the week gone by, speculations were rife about Khabib’s return, and UFC president Dana White on live TV disseminated that Khabib is waiting for something spectacular to take place at UFC 257. In the entire yes/no situation the MMA enthusiasts’ hopes started to build-up. There still exists a belief that the Octagon is yet to see more of Khabib Nurmagomedov, and the Eagle will return to get the 30-0 distinction.
Before the week, It seemed UFC matchmakers were eager to process the second leg of Conor Vs. Khabib but, apparently the result of Conor Vs. Dustin hampered all the plans.
In the post-event presser of UFC 257, Dana White hinted that Khabib is unlikely to return. So, the uncertainty about Khabib’s future is still at large. What do you think will he have another go at the biggest stage of MMA?
