“If he’s not gonna fight, then you’re done,” Dominick Reyes wants Jon Jones stripped of UFC Light Heavyweight Title

Dominick Reyes wants Jon Jones stripped of UFC Light Heavyweight Title following the champion’s self-imposed exile following his contract dispute.

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones is yet to compete in the octagon since UFC 247 when he controversially beat Dominick Reyes. There were talks of a rematch with Reyes or a possible clash with Jan Blachowicz. Instead, he set his sights on a super fight with Heavyweight Francis Ngannou instead.

The fight however, seems to have fallen apart with Jones having a very public falling out with UFC President Dana White over pay issues. The Champ has since threatened to leave the promotion. He has even claimed to have vacated the title until he is paid what he deserves.

The UFC on their part however, still recognise him as champion. There has been no decision regarding the issue off late. This has frustrated Reyes who believes that Jones should either vacate or be stripped of his title.

“If he’s not gonna fight, then you’re done,” Reyes told SiriusXM. “You’re done, you’re stripped, it’s over because he retired. I mean I guess it’s not stripped, it’s more retired.

“He said he’d walk away. I don’t know, he’s trying to twist and make it so he can get more fans. ‘I’m a champion for the fighters. I’m doing all these other things.’ He should have just fought me. You can’t sit out two years with a new champion and then be like, ‘Well, I’m the undisputed champ.’ You quit.”

When quizzed about Jones, White recently said that he only has the Fight Island on his mind at the moment and he would sort things out eventually. Reyes however, doesn’t have the same patience as his boss and is clearly frustrated with the lack of upward mobility in his division.

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
