UFC Interim Middleweight Title : Does the current state of the UFC’s Middleweight division call for the reinstitution of the Interim title?
With Israel Adesanya on the excursion to face Light Heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz, the Middleweight championship is not going to be put on the line in the near future. In the wake of that, the manager of Paulo Costa is pushing for the introduction of an Interim championship. And wants it to be the prize for which both No.2 (Costa) and No.1 ranked Middleweight Robert Whittaker should contest.
Paulo Costa Vs. Robert Whittaker is not a targeted bout as of now. However, Brochirra’s manager, Wallid Ismail has recently stated that UFC president Dana White is on board with the fight.
Hence, if indeed the fixture becomes official then it being for a title might not be a dull idea. However, is the interim championship really a need of the hour?

When Does The Interim Title Come Into Practice?
The word Interim is used to denote something which is temporarily a part of existence and will diminish once the original form restores. In UFC as well it carries the same meaning in the context of Interim title.
In the past whenever an undisputed titleholder has reported to be not in a position to defend his/her title and is set to remain out of action for a substantial period, then there appears a need to introduce the Interim title. To keep the impetus in the division alive. But, keeping in mind the current scenario is the condition applicable in the Middleweight division?

While Israel Adesanya is contesting to become UFC’s next double champion, an Interim champion waiting for his return could be an ideal scene. But in contrast, the Last Stylebender defended his title in September 2020, which is still a more recent defense as compared to the Bantamweight, Featherweight, and Heavyweight championships.
Moreover, Adesanya is neither out of action nor has expressed any sort of disinterest in competing again. Therefore, in that case, the Interim title is off the table. So, why there are wants for an Interim title in the 185-pound section?
There are conjectures that Adesanya is the favorite to beat Jan Blachowicz, and if it happens then his future endeavors will go wide and will be uncertain. This probably is the reason why talks regarding the Interim title are at large among fighters, managers, and enthusiasts.
Thus, the Interim title could really become tangible but first let’s watch what happens at UFC 259, where Israel Adesanya Vs. Jan Blachowicz is lined up.
