MMA and the UFC are famous for breathtaking and violent fights which can cause severe injuries to their fighters. Jorge Masvidal, a former UFC superstar, recently sat down with Joe Rogan on his podcast to discuss the serious injuries that fighters sustain during MMA fights and training. Masvidal also revealed that his worst injury wasn’t what most people might expect, shedding light on the harsh realities of being an MMA fighter.

Before his co-main event defeat to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287, Masvidal spoke with Rogan about a range of topics, including his upcoming Gamebred Boxing 4 event.

The conversation gave fans a rare insight into Masvidal’s life outside the octagon and his plans for the future. It was a fascinating interview, providing an inside look at the mindset of a top-level fighter preparing for a significant fight.

Throughout his career, Masvidal was one of the most consistent and admired fighters in the UFC. He was known for his natural fitness and never missed weight or took performance-enhancing drugs.

In a sport where drug use and weight-cutting have become commonplace, Masvidal’s dedication to staying clean and healthy was a breath of fresh air. He was an example of how to succeed in MMA without resorting to shortcuts or cheating.

What made Jorge Masvidal do the Harlem Shake?

Jorge Masvidal is famous for his exciting fights that go right down to the wire. He has fought in some brutal battles against the likes of Colby Covington, Nate Diaz, and Gilbert Burns.

However, during a recent podcast interview with Joe Rogan, Masvidal reveals that the most painful injury he had sustained was not from any of those fights. He didn’t disclose the exact nature of the injury, but he revealed that it was not something that most people would think of.

He said-

His thumb went right into my eye, and I was throwing up immediately. Like 10 secs after, I started throwing up, and I was doing the ‘Harlem Shake’. I couldn’t control my body. I was just like shaking and throwing up.

“It was so much pain. After that, I had to wear eye patch for about like 5 weeks because I had double vision.” He further added.

During the interview, Masvidal went on to explain that his most painful injury was an eye poke. The pain was so intense that he threw up, and he was moving around as if he was doing the “Harlem shake.”

It was a terrifying experience for Masvidal, who often dealt with pain in the octagon. The revelation gave fans a glimpse into the brutal reality of MMA and the toll it takes on fighters’ bodies.

Masvidal weighs in on lifelong injuries

Surprisingly, the worst injury he’s dealt with was an eye poke. Although he’s had issues with his hand and back, he was able to overcome them. Masvidal was in the MMA circuit for a long time.

Moreover, his injuries are only an addition to his grit and determination. It’s commendable how Masvidal fought despite his injuries and has become an inspiration for many in the MMA community.

He said,

Like my hand is all fu*king wrecked, you know. Back is pretty messed up but I get through it you know. Cold plunge, sauna, lot of stretching things like that.

Masvidal also shared how he manages his injuries and continues to compete. He emphasizes stretching, which he feels has been highly beneficial for him. Additionally, he uses a sauna and cold plunge to maintain his physical fitness.

Joe Rogan, the popular podcaster, has also talked about the benefits of sauna and cold plunge, and Masvidal seems to be a believer too.
