Stipe Miocic beats Daniel Cormier in the main event of UFC 252 to retain Heavyweight title. The trilogy between the greatest heavyweights of the UFC has finally concluded.
Daniel Cormier will head into retirement with a loss in his last match. Stipe Miocic and Cormier have faced each other 3 times in as many years. The two shared a victory each in their previous encounters and looked to settle the score tonight.

Tho pair, who have genuine claim to the title of the greatest heavyweight in UFC, fought for 25 minutes giving it their all; Cormier to lift the UFC Heavyweight Championship one last time, Miocic to hold on to it. In the end, it was the defending champion who came out victorious.

The first round saw Miocic looping in a few left hooks while Cormier responded with a takedown. The defending champion was stunned near the end with an eye poke but recovered quickly to turn the tide in the second round.
He outworked and outmuscled the former champ-champ with a series of punches. Cormier’s left eye was nearly swollen completely shut from an eye by the start of the third round.
The fourth round saw the two have a standing fight with hooks, uppercuts and jabs. Cormier ended the round on top with a 1-2 combo.

Cormier and Miocic shared an embrace before the start of the 5th round. Miocic began the round landing early while Cormier decided to force the clinch and pushed him against the cage. Near the end of the fight the rivals exchanged right hands.
The round ended with a right hand from Miocic before attempting a takedown that Cormier avoided.
The result was taken to the judges who handed the win to the defending champion.

Cormier did not have his fairytale ending. His efforts in the ring however, reflects the tenacity and spirit that made him a UFC legend years before he even announced his swansong.
Official result: Stipe Miocic def. Daniel Cormier by unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 48-47) to remain the UFC heavyweight champion.
