The marquee event of the month- UFC 255- is just a handful of days away, and in the lead up to the event, there is an intriguing fact about the mega show, that is constantly getting highlighted and thus needs to get circled out.
While the headliner fight is for the men’s flyweight championship, the pre-concluder is also for the same prize but in regards to the other gender. Though, the stakes would be high as the title would be on the line, irrespective of that, the women’s Flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko is most certainly going to modify the record books with her appearance, as she and her sister Antonina Shevchenko are set to become the first pair of female siblings to feature on the same UFC Card.
Valentina, who is the champion of 125-pound division and is one of the protagonists of the co-main event, will witness her sister Antonina go up against Ariane Lipski earlier in the preliminary card.
Antonina, 35, is the elder Shevchenko but there’s only a three years gap between them. The pair entered the fighting circuit together, and although this would be the first time that they will walk through the same tunnel in UFC, the two have apparently shared the fight space in their Muay Thai days.
Valentina Shevchenko On Whether The Presence Of Her Sister At The Same Card Could Distract Her
In an interview with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Bullet talked about her upcoming fight with Jennifer Maia, and also threw light on the fact that she and her sister are going to make history together.
On being asked whether her sister’s presence could deviate her attention from her own match. She immediately waved of all the concerns.
“No not at all not distraction” Valentina said. “We are for so long time in martial arts sport and we experienced so many different style competition, different ways what we are competing. Back when we fought in Muay Thai, every time we were fighting in the same card, same championship. It was like I was fighting in the lower weight class she is in higher, we had like 6 pounds a difference, 5,6 pounds a difference between weight classes. It was like me literally fighting the finals and she’s next to me. So, she was just preparing, waiting when the fight is done.”
Valentina further added, “We had so much experience, I know how it looks like exactly. I know what to expect and when you know how it’s gonna be you’re never gonna be distracted.
“For someone who experienced it for the very first time, yes probably something new feelings, but it’s not our case. Totally not our and I really love to fight on the same card because we trained together, we had training camp together, we support each other and after the fight we will rest together. So, it’s good.”
