Unai Emery after Fulham match

Unai Emery after Fulham match: The Arsenal manager spoke on the club’s title chances after a strong start.

Arsenal extended their winning run to 9 games in all competitions as they thumped Fulham 5-1 at Craven Cottage yesterday. Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a brace, while Aaron Ramsey’s terrific backheel goal completed a convincing away win for Arsenal.

Unai Emery’s side is currently fourth in the table, only behind Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool. Yesterday’s win was also their sixth consecutive win in the Premier League after Arsenal lost their two opening matches to Man City and Chelsea.

Arsenal’s win at Fulham has fuelled positivity among the Gunners’ fans, who sang ‘We’ve got our Arsenal back’ for most of the second half. After finishing the first half at 1-1, Arsenal scored four goals inside 40 minutes in a complete domination over the hosts in the second half.

As Arsenal registered a convincing victory, the head coach Unai Emery was asked on Arsenal’s title chances.

Unai Emery after Fulham match:

The head coach reflected on his side’s performance against Fulham, and also addressed the question on whether Arsenal can win the Premier League title this season.

“I don’t think about this performance as the best because I am finding every time we can get better,” said Emery.

It depends on each match what is happening on the pitch. I think when we scored the first goal we could play with more confidence.”

He was asked on whether he believes Arsenal are contention for the Premier League trophy.

“I don’t want to look behind, every match is different and very difficult.

“We are going up in the table little by little giving us a better position for our objective. But I am just thinking about the next match against Leicester at the Emirates, in our home, with our supporters. I want to give them and to show them we are improving with our quality, with our mentality and above all with commitment we had here today.

“When we lost the first two matches against Manchester City and Chelsea, we were calm and when we are winning now I think we need to be in the same way in our mentality.

“Be calm, enjoy working, stay together, have one feeling with our supporters like today, but improving individually and collectively and finding our best performance in each match with combinations from the players.

“Because we need to continue to improve – and we can.”

What next?

Arsenal players will now head off for national duties this week. They will return to Premier League action on October 23 when Arsenal face Leicester City.
