Danny Welbeck may feature in Arsenal’s side against City as a left-back, hints Unai Emery.

Arsenal are set to begin their new Premier League season with a new head-coach for the first time in 22 years. Unai Emery will be on the managerial bench in the place of Arsene Wenger, as Arsenal takes on defending champions Manchester City.

Unai Emery saw an overhaul in Arsenal squad, as the London club made five signings, including two midfielders and defenders. However, Unai Emery shocked the Arsenal fan-base with a stunning revelation before the game against City.

The Arsenal head-coach lauded Danny Welbeck’s versatility, and disclosed that the forward actually trained at a defensive position with the club before the match.

“On Thursday Danny actually worked with us at left-back, And his performance was good!” Unai Emery said.

“Danny is one of our players who has a multi-position possibility, as a right winger, left winger and striker, and I like this spirit,” the Spanish head-coach added.

Emery insisted that Welbeck will stay at the club. “And for me it’s clear. On Thursday the transfer window closed and Welbeck will stay with us,” he stated.

“I said to him when he arrived with us after the holidays that I want the best performance in his career from him. And he has to work for that,” Emery said about the English forward.

Danny Welbeck has been retained in the Arsenal side despite his lack of consistency in the previous season. Unai Emery is impressed with the forward’s versatility, and has pushed him to work on his productivity.
