Arsenal conceded as tunning defeat to Everton in the Premier League, suffering a massive setback for the top-4 race.

Unai Emery’s side faced a huge setback in their pursuit for Champions League qualification next season as the side conceded defeat against Everton.

Arsenal’s poor form in away games continued at Goodison Park as the side failed to capitalize on their brilliant home run. Phil Jagielka’s goal proved to be the only difference in the game as Arsenal failed to score.

Unai Emery made two substitutions at halftime and even tweaked the formation, but it all went in vain for the Spanish manager. Mesut Ozil failed to step up for the side as well, as the midfielder was substituted in the second half. The German midfielder vent out his frustration by throwing a jacket during the game.

Unai Emery interacted with the media for the post-match conference following the loss.

Unai Emery on Arsenal’s performance:

The Arsenal head coach admitted that Arsenal’s pursuit for top-4 has become significantly difficult after the loss to Everton.

“I am, with my mind, with the same idea before the match,” Unai Emery said. “We know it’s going to be difficult, that today was a great opportunity to take three points.

“After the result we are fourth and we need in 38 matches to be consistent. We are going to have chances also.”

The Gunners’ boss also stated that their fate depends on other teams as much as it depends on them.

“It depends on us and other teams. We can be negative because it’s three points less but it’s in our hands to continue taking chances to be in the top four,” said Emery.

However, the Gunners’ boss insisted that the side should prepare for the Europa League clash against Napoli.

“Today we are four. Our great opportunity was to be third, at the moment we are four. I knew before it was going to be difficult. After the result I think the same.

“We didn’t show our best performance. But we’re going to think the next match on Thursday and Watford away.”
