Unai Emery has become the latest contender for the job at Arsenal. The Spaniard is reportedly in London to discuss the vacant position at the North-London club.

Former Paris Saint Germain manager Unai Emery is reportedly in London to hold talks with Arsenal over the managerial position. Emery’s name surfaced late in the managerial race. Many Arsenal fans were convinced that Mikel Arteta would be the next boss at the North-London club.

British media has today reported that Unai Emery is in London. The exact reason for his visit to the capital is yet unclear, but Unai Emery is an intriguing option for Arsenal.

The Spaniard’s CV is hard to pass. Unai Emery has won three successive Europa League titles with Sevilla FC, before joining French giants PSG. In Paris, he led the club to Ligue 1 title this season.

Unai Emery has already been replaced by Thomas Tuchel at Paris Saint Germain, which means that Arsenal won’t have to pay compensation to the club as well.

The North-London club had a disappointing domestic and European run in Arsene Wenger’s final season. Arsenal finished 6th in the Premier League and lost to Atletico Madrid in the Europa League.

Earlier, BBC journalist David Ornstein reported that the new Arsenal manager will be provided with an initial transfer budget of 50m.

Mikel Arteta, however, is still leading the race to replace Arsene Wenger. The ex-Arsenal midfielder is currently working as assistant-manager under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. He’s been serving at the position for the last two years.

While Arteta has no managerial experience, Unai Emery enters the race with a highly successful win-rate across different countries. The Spanish manager is also experienced in handling stars like Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, which provides him an edge over Arteta.

Earlier, he talked to Spanish radio Cadena SAR about speculated move to Arsenal, where he said, “I haven’t had any offer from Arsenal – but I’m open to anything.”
