Van Dijk goal vs Man Utd: Liverpool star defender jumps over Harry Maguire to give Reds the lead against their arch rivals in the Premier League.

The biggest match in the English football calendar saw Liverpool draw first blood against Manchester United in the Premier league through a towering header from centre back Virgil Van Dijk and the £70m man jumped over the £80m man to do so.

The battle between two of England’s most celebrated clubs saw the two most expensive defenders in the world go head to head in action. It only took 14 minutes for the Dutchman to get one over his counterpart; figuratively and literally.

Manchester United fans will be disappointed at the manner with which the side conceded. It wasn’t the most devastating of headers. To make matters worse, the ball wasn’t too far off David De Gea. However, there is no faulting the beautiful cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold or Virgil Van Dijk who rose the highest; and a few inches above Harry Maguire to dispatch the ball into the top corner.

This is the 8th time Manchester United have conceded a goal from a corner this season; the highest of any team in the Premier League so far.

The visitors started the game strong and with positive intent. However, at the moment of writing, the match has been the Liverpool show, with the hosts gaining all the confidence from the opener while United seem to have been shaken after conceding.
