Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20 format: The premier domestic 50-over competition will begin from September 24 across four venues.

Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20 is only a few days away from us now. India’s premier domestic 50-over tournament will once again give numerous opportunities to young talents to showcase their expertise in the One-day format of the game.

Slated to begin on September 24, the league phase of the tournament will carry on till October 16. The league matches will be played in Bengaluru, Jaipur, Baroda and Dehradun. The final of the tournament will be played on October 25 at an undisclosed venue.

With Chandigarh being added in Group D as the 38th team in the tournament, it will be the first time that so many team will take part in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Below are the group-wise list of teams for Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20:

Group A: Mumbai, Saurashtra, Andhra, Chhattisgarh, Hyderabad, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Goa, Kerala

Group B: Delhi, Vidarbha, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Baroda, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab

Group C: Gujarat, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Railways, Bihar, Services

Group D: Assam, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Puducherry, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Mizoram, Nagaland, Chandigarh

Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20 format

The league phase of the tournament will see teams playing against all other teams of their respective groups. It is worth mentioning that Group C and Group D have 10 teams each as compared to the Group A and B comprising of nine teams each. Therefore, teams of Group C and D will get to play an extra match in their respective groups.

The first two Quarter-final matches of the tournament will be played on October 20. Only the top team from Group D will qualify for the quarter-finals. As far as Group C is concerned, the top two teams will enter the next round.

The situation isn’t that simple for the remaining five teams. A total of five teams will qualify from Group A and B combined. Out of the 18 teams, first five teams with the highest points will qualify for the quarter-finals.

Under the aforementioned rule, even if all the five teams getting qualified are from either of Group A and B, teams from the other group will have to no option than to exit from the tournament.

The quarter-finals will be followed by the usual semi-finals and the final match to find the eventual winner.
