Virat Kohli on KL Rahul's failure

Virat Kohli on KL Rahul’s failure: The Indian captain was vocal about India’s opening batsman’s failures in the West Indies series.

Since routing Windies 2-0 in the Test series yesterday, Indian captain Virat Kohli has been outspoken about both the positives and negatives that emerged out from the two-match series.

Kohli duly mentioned individual performances by Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant and Umesh Yadav among the positives that the team received from the series. On being asked about the concerns in opening batsman Lokesh Rahul’s inconsistent form, Kohli said that he has no doubt in his [Rahul’s] attitude and that he will look to rectify his errors.

“KL [Rahul] will look at his errors in the two innings and then look to rectify them. There’s no doubt about his attitude and how he goes about the game. He’s very positive in his head but he is someone who also appreciates people telling him his faults which I think is a quality to have,” Kohli was quoted in the press conference.

The 29-year old Indian captain was looking forward to the practice matches before the first Test in Australia in the hope of batsmen acclimatising to the foreign conditions. He believed scoring runs in those matches will boost their confidence.

“We have a couple of first-class games before we start in Australia where I’m sure the guys would want to get in and get stuck in and get some runs under the belt before we enter that series. The guys who haven’t been able to get many runs in this series will look to rectify their mistakes which is a very natural process,” Kohli added.

In the 10 Test matches which Rahul has played for India this year, he has yielded below par returns of 420 runs at an average of 24.70 and a strike rate of 60.25, numbers which are unsatisfactory for an opening batsman. He would himself be looking to come good in the practice matches ahead of the first Test down under.
