Virat Kohli receives the Padma Shri Award from the President

Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli was bestowed a huge honor as he received the Padma Shri award from the honorable President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. (Virat Kohli receives the Padma Shri Award from the President )

Virat was among eight sports men and women were given this prestigious honor including hockey captain PR Sreejesh, Rio Olympics heroes wrestler Sakshi Malik, gymnast Dipa Karmakar, Paralympian Mariyappan Thangavelu and Deepa Malik, discus thrower Vikas Gowda and the blind cricket team captain Shekhar Naik.

This marks a sensational year for Kohli who took over the reigns of the Indian team from the great MS Dhoni. (Virat Kohli receives the Padma Shri Award from the President ) Kohli had led his team to the number one test rankings and won a record number of test matches.

This unprecedented home season was capped off by a superb come from behind test series win against Australia earlier this week.

Kohli took to Instagram to show his appreciation and was truly honored by this award.

Virat Kohli will now be focused on getting back to full fitness as he will prepare to lead the Royal Challengers Bangalore side in the upcoming season of the IPL. This will be the tenth successive season that Kohli has played for the RCB franchise.
